A conversation with Saotome Alto
Random Macross Frontier character: Alto, you need to stop leading those girls on.
Alto: What do you mean?
RMFC: You know; Sheryl and Ranka.
Alto: Yes, I know them.
RMFC: No. You know.
Alto: I have no idea what you're talking about.
RMFC: It's not fair to them, Alto. You're being a jerk.
Alto: No, seriously. What?
RMFC: This clueless act is endearing...really. But you've played a woman in kabuki; you should know better, Princess.
Alto: Don't call me Princess!
RMFC: I've figured it out. Because you identify with women, you don't want to hurt them. So you put off making a decision. But don't you realize that by doing that, you're hurting both of them? At least if you pick one, the one you pick won't be hurt.
Alto: If you don't start making sense, I'm going to have to give up on this conversation.
RMFC: Pick one. Who are you going to kiss? Sheryl, or Ranka?
Alto (embarrassed): I've already kissed both of them.
RMFC: Okay, fine; ignore my clever OP song reference. Which one are you going to date?
Alto: I don't understand.
RMFC: Most people in our society are monogamous, Alto.
Alto: That's a big word. But I don't see what it has to do with me.
RMFC: So you're saying you're a bigamist?
Alto: Oooh, another big word.
RMFC: ...
Alto: Look, this has been fascinating, but I'd like to go fly my Valkyrie now. See you.

We have very intellectual conversations
Me: A watched pot never boils. Ever.
Sean: I see little bubbles forming.

Flowers!
Kate at Oasis Garden gave me these beautiful flowers! (I don't have a
vase at work so they're sitting in a mug full of water inside a trash
can ;>)

Previews before Harry Potter
There were several previews before Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, some of which made an impression.
It was neat to see the 2012 trailer on a big screen. The effects looked just as spectacular as they did on my computer monitor.
When the trailer for the next Twilight movie came on, before I could even tell what it was, 90% of the theater had an orgasm. At least, that's what it sounded like!
I was horrified that no one around me seemed to have read Where the Wild Things Are. I heard no shouts of excitement or even murmurs of recognition. One of the teenage boys in front of me explained to his companions, "It's some sort of book."
There was an ad for a movie about a boy becoming a hero with a long name I can't remember, and an ad for a kids' movie. And that's about all I recall.
Really, none of the trailers that were new to me were all that interesting. I'm not sure what movie I'm looking forward to at this point...other than seeing Half-Blood Prince again :)
Edit: I forgot about the preview for Sherlock Holmes, mainly because it looks completely stupid and non-Holmesian and its mere existence is enough to drive me to throw things. I probably blocked it out of my memory ;P

Filters, censorship, and overload
Maybe we have to accept that there are way too many people in the world who, as adults, do need to be treated like children because they didn't learn the lessons of childhood.
Jonathan Dresner of Frog in a Well touches on a problem that I've been pondering for years. When is omission censorship? How much do people need to know? Is there a way to make information available without connotation? Without harm? How much should you tell someone, child or adult?
If you tell too little, you risk inserting your own bias into what you do tell. But if you tell too much, it can be overwhelming...and you still might not be telling enough.
How can we place filters on the world around us so we can receive the information we need?

This morning's McDonald's experience
I ordered a number 12, which is two sausage burritos and hash browns, with a Diet Coke, no ice, and a fruit 'n yogurt parfait.
At first I received...a fruit 'n yogurt parfait. "I also ordered a number 12," I informed the girl at the window. She had me pull forward.
When she came out with my food, there was no drink. "I also had a Diet Coke, no ice," I told her. As she ran back in to get the drink, I looked in the bag and saw that there was an apple pie in it. There also seemed to be two burritos and a hash brown, though, so I decided not to worry about it.
Finally at work I opened everything and discovered that instead of two sausage burritos, I was given two breakfast burritos.

Nice pen
I just took this picture so I'd remember what kind of pen this is. It
writes really well. I want one!

Desk
So, it wasn't clear where I'd sit with my laptop...and AJ decided to
just build me a desk.

"That's one thing about the things I make. They ain't pretty, but they
won't fall down."
