Just watched the end of Friends season 6--the two-parter where Chandler's trying to trick Monica into thinking he doesn't ever want to get married, so she'll be surprised when he proposes, only Richard shows up at the most inopportune moment and tells Monica he still loves her, and wants to marry her.
"Fair would be if you wanted to marry me then, or if Chandler wanted to marry me now. Nothing about this is fair. Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing."
But it all turns out right in the end--without even a cliffhanger this time! And they cry and say how much they love each other and kiss and get engaged...I was totally in tears, just like the first time I saw it.
Man, I'm such a sap :> But...Monica and Chandler!

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but I do feel that the writers' decision to marry Chandler and Monica almost completely ruined the worth of those two characters.
Chandler was at his best as a roommate of Joey, and that situation didn't ever get old. Chandler living with Monica had some ups, but for the most part, it wasn't anything compared to what it was before.
And Monica - they started her out a lot more solid than she was near the end. In the end, she was completely defined by her quirks, though I suppose that's because Jennifer Anniston had become the "star".
Regardless, marrying off all the friends but Joey was a half-assed wrap up to what was SUPPOSED to be a comedy first, drama second.
Not to mention that episodes started to contain much less "action" as the series wore on, because they were trying to put too much drama and plot in it, and ended up with quick installments of a larger story that would have been much better told in an hour's time rather than just thirty minutes.
They came, they tried, they went out with a lot of fans. But even the third or fourth rekindling of Ross and Rachel started to get old. It didn't cut it as a drama, because of the thirty minute time slot and because of the hole they'd dug (they had to simply marry friends to friends, and then invent one extra guy so another friend could get married), and there near the end, they seemed to have forgotten that their comedy was their number one draw.
Me, I'll take Seinfeld over Friends any day. They had some crappy episodes, but they never lost what they were trying to do. It wasn't a comedy wrapped into a drama wrapped into a comedy. It was simply "A show about nothing". That's brilliant. ;D
Bah, Friends has always been about drama. First episode, Rachel leaves Barry at the altar, and Ross finds out his wife is a lesbian!
