Okay, rich boy

From Scuttlebiz:
With the exception of one international trip, every flight I have ever booked while living in Augusta has originated from Augusta's airport. The fares on each of those flights from Augusta Regional have always been "reasonable," which I define as being within $100 or $150 of Atlanta or Columbia.

Yeah, well, some of us can't find $100 or $150 in our couch cushions. Yeesh.

(Then again, if it gets to the point that it costs $150 to drive to Atlanta...:P)

It depends who's paying... My perception is that people making connections out of Augusta Regional are primarily business travellers. And that's why the decent times are all really high, fare wise.

Plus when there's more than one of you travelling, that $100-$150 EACH soon adds up compared to riding to Atlanta or Charlotte.

If flights went more places, it'd be a different matter, but mostly it's just a means of getting you into Delta and US Airways' hubs.

I don't mind using Augusta IF I HAVE TO, but I can't stand those little planes they use, they feel old, and like I'm having to "think light" to keep the darned thing in the air; they also vibrate something AWFUL, and 45 minutes of your brain shaking from THAT, is not MY idea of a satisfying "buzz". I have to say, though, it's a pretty flight from Atlanta to Augusta, and if the plane wasn't such an annoyance to me, I'd use it more often; it's definitely nicer to get to Augusta via a tacked on extra 45 minute flight, than the time it takes to get THROUGH the airport, get out of the airport, load up your luggage, pay for parking, get out of the lot, get onto the highway, and drive back to Augusta.

BUT, until the planes are updated, I have no problems asking for rides, or renting cars to get from ATL to AUG.

Plus, you know, David's got a point. For the two of us to fly to Augusta from Atlanta later this month, that would be approximately $300 --that's HALF the cost of my non-stop international ticket, alone. I'd rather spend that $300 towards gas from being picked up at the airport, and shopping/eating money while I'm visiting..

Exactly!

Though I disagree with you on small planes...I love them :) It makes the experience more visceral.

I've been in several small planes, and slightly larger puddle jumper/commuter type planes, and I love those, they ARE fun, but I don't like those from AUG airport, they just seem too big to be able to carry themselves well, and then, like I mentioned, the annoying vibrating

Also when you add in the delays between flights at airports, you might not actually save that much time by flying to Augusta compared to driving up I-20. Plus I-20 has better restaurants....

Yeah, there was one time my flight back to Augusta kept getting delayed, and at one point I realized that if I had driven from Atlanta I would have been home already!
