I'm so sad that few people are going to get that reference, but I did love the fact that I got it. I had to repeat it a couple of times because I couldn't believe that they'd reference M7.
Good episode anyway, and at least it's funny that episode 12 is one of the few that matches up.
The space battle look in this one was done really well too. Haruhi had her alien forces, Mikuru's ship was crewed by cute-things, and Yuki had the robot-like female (?) force.
And I don't even think they showed Kyon's team...
Once again, a week's wait for the next episode. ;_; At least people are trying to start translating the novels. I'd like to see scanlation work on the manga they're doing though.

Isn't that telling? And par for the course? We don't even know Kyon's real name, or his sister's name for that matter. This is a good example of real irony: our lead character, the one we should be (and are) identifying with, is the one we actually know the least about.
It's also a commentary on anime stereotypes. Even though we get no real information about Kyon, we "know" several things about him because he is a male lead in a high school anime. And he does reinforce some of the stereotypes with his behavior.
I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I liked Koizumi's comments about how Haruhi and Kyon trust each other. I've noticed several examples of Haruhi deferring to Kyon, although in previous episodes she said stuff like "Well, if you [Kyon] are okay with that..." but in this one she made it a point to avoid giving him credit. ;>
In this episode and [H] episode 14, we can see that Haruhi is fighting her feelings for Kyon. After that speech she gave him about relationships back in [H] episode 4, she just about has to, for pride's sake.
(I love the way the story has been brought out! It's brilliant!)
