Kindle

Have you seen this?

This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I mean wow. I'm not really the type to run out and buy all the latest gadgets...I mean, just look at my cell phone (which my mom has been trying to get me to replace for months). But this thing looks awesome. I'm especially interested in how the display is supposed to look like ink on paper rather than a screen.

I wish I could see one in person!

At first I thought it was a sheaf of paper, and the product was named "kindling". I wasn't too happy with the price tag...

No .pdf support, no backlight, no color images, and no way to view word documents without paying 10 cents for the Amazon service to convert it to the kindle format.

I'll pass and wait for the next version. I like the idea, but for me to consider the cost of it, I have to be able to view pdf's and color images from textbooks and magazines.

You know, I was so excited about the idea of screen text looking like ink on paper that I really didn't investigate anything else about the product!

Not being able to see color would suck, and I don't like the thought of limiting Word documents and not having pdfs at all.

I'm obviously not going to buy one--I still use a $30 mp3 player and my cell phone is, as I mentioned in the post, laughable--but I was excited about the idea of being able to access virtually anything I wanted to read anywhere, anytime, through something the size of a book, that would present the text to my eye in a way similar to a book instead of a screen.

I'd still like to see one in person :)
