Air traffic controller on Coruscant ;P
After The Pallbearer ended, I watched Episode II, which was on HBO. And you know...I like it. It's a good movie. There is only one thing that annoys me, and that's Threepio's overdone puns. Otherwise, I'm really happy with it.
Even the so-called "wooden" acting...I think Padme and Anakin's scenes work because their love isn't pure, isn't true, isn't based on a solid foundation. Their love is based on a mutual desire to escape their societal roles, roles they took on before they were old enough to understand what they were doing. The rest of it is simple lust. They feel trapped, and the only way to express this emotion, to "fight back", is to love each other, to indulge in the exciting feeling of doing something "wrong".
It's ironic that this forbidden love, this betrayal of the very rules the two of them pledged their lives to protect, is actually, in the end, what saves the galaxy from Palpatine's Empire.
This is only the second time I've seen the movie. I think I was afraid to watch it again because I kept hearing how other people dislike it. I was afraid that I would realize that my first impression was wrong, and that all it was was bad acting after all. But no, I think I'm right.
Either way, I enjoyed the movie :)
I guess I should have dinner at some point.

I think the whole love-thing worked because they were more or less teens in their first-love. I think too many people forget how awkward that first love / teen love really was.

That's a good point! A very good point.
I still don't think they're in "love", though ;D
I stand by my original thought that when Padme told Anakin she loved him she was trying to comfort him in what she thought would be their final moments.
Afterwards, well hell, this psycho slaughtered an entire village of Sand People. What would he do to her if she went back on what she said?

I disagree...I think she thought she loved him. I mean, it's the classic "bad boy" meeting the "good girl" and tempting her away from the safe and comfortable. Her life was far from boring, don't get me wrong...but she still knew what to expect, and she had an inkling of what she was missing. Anakin, a crazy guy who liked to rewrite the rules, was just what she thought she wanted.
One thing that was interesting to me this time around was their conversation while they were hiding out by the lake. Anakin said that everyone should agree on a plan of action, and when Padme asked "What if they don't agree?" he responded, "They should be made to." She astutely pointed out that what he was getting at was a dictatorship, but when he mused that that might not be so bad, she completely let it pass. "You're making fun of me." And that was that. A critical part of her entire ideology abandoned in favor of seeing the cute guy smile.
So yes, I think she was intrigued. She just had no idea what she was getting into.
