What can I say, I like moving furniture

I mentioned before how I like to take some measure of control over a changing situation, and that when my officemate left for a new job I decided to rearrange the office. Here, finally, are pictures of what I did to the place. (To see what the office originally looked like, check here. Not so many great views, but you get the general idea.)

The madness begins here. Basically all I did at this point was shove desks away from one door and towards another.

Then I went batshit loco.

See that dirty-looking arc on the floor? That's the mark left when the cleaners buffed the floor around where that second desk used to be. As you can see, I rotated it 180 degrees. I also shuffled the contents of that desk with the contents of the white table I put in its place.

So now I have something of a cubicle:

With my desk moved away from the previously-unused door and the second desk right next to mine, there's a free and easy walkway through the office from door to door.

There is the danger that my office might become a hallway, but I figure I'll just leave a door shut when I'm not feeling particularly sociable.

All in all, I like the change. It's different, but it feels comfortable and usable.

One of the office ladies looked in and said, "Wow, it's so nice and neat and clean!" Granted, there was a lot of dust around before I rearranged (and left a note for housekeeping), but I think organizing and storing all the clutter really made a difference. Instead of piles on top of piles, there are open surfaces and clean lines. Very feng shui :>

There are still things to do, but on the whole I'm happy with how it's turned out.

I do want to get rid of that penguin, though. It annoys me, for some reason.

Are you sure you want yet another thing to pack? :>

Hey, I want the penguin! Then it won't have to move that far from home! And the office looks great, I know first hand! I really! like exclamtion points!

I think I've figured out why the penguin annoys me.

Remember those colored pencil-style drawings of children with large, onion-shaped heads, doing something overly cutesy, with an inspirational, religious message written in girly, printed handwriting font?

I've always thought those were ugly, and the penguin's eyes remind me of them.

(I have been trying desperately for like an hour to remember what those kids were called. I know they have a name. I will buy a candy bar for whoever knows what I'm talking about and can supply me with a name. My googling has come up fruitless. Or onionheadless.)

Hehehe, I think it only logical that Wes have the penguin, definitely. And, Wes, I just want you to know, that I share your love of punctuation, only I'm a "Comma Queen!"

And Heather, those horrid little children were actually CALLED "Big Eyes." D. Golding's one of the big artists, although I can't find out what the "D" stands for, however, "distraught" "dismal" and "disasterous" all come to mind pretty quickly. Check some various examples here:

Not all of them are Golding, mind you.
A friend's mother used to keep pictures like these in her bathroom, so over those years, I'd seen them pretty extensively, and while I can see the definite mod/kitchzy side to them, they're just not my cup of tea, but they are kind of neat to look at and remember, and they DO see to be somewhat of a "cult collectible."

So, about that candy bar, how about splitting a Milky Way with me, then? ;)

Sorry, Brookie, those aren't the ones...those are pretty ghastly though :>

The ones I'm talking about aren't creepy or anything, they're just annoying. And I mean it when I say that their heads are shaped like onions.

OH, you mean kewpie dolls?

With their weird little heads?

Heather Meadows said...

No...

You see these guys on greeting cards sometimes. It's artwork, and little statuettes. I don't think there were rubber/plastic dolls though.

The eyes are more teardrop shaped, I think.

Ahhhhhh, Precious Moments. The sacharinely sweet element of most home dust catcher collections?

And I don't give two cents about the candy bar, this is just one of those things that I feel I MUST continue on with until it's figured out, you know??

:P

OMG YES.

Precious Moments.

That's what I was thinking of, and oh, ugh.

They're even worse than I remembered!

Okay, so you win the candy bar :) And now, you can do me another favor! Tell me how many people are invited to your bridal shower ;) I kind of need to get things organized.
