Solve the mystery!

Who is the blogger I met this afternoon? Here are some hints:

  1. The blogger is male.

  2. He cannot live without caffeine.

  3. I discovered I was mispronouncing his name in my head.

  4. He attends my alma mater.
So, did you figure it out?

I'll let you in on the secret when I have time to do up a post. For now, off to Ben's to watch Howl's Moving Castle!

I loved it! Enough that I immediately went home and ordered two copies of the book (one for me, one for Ben). I'd like to know more about the war--it had those oversimplified Miyazaki "war is bad and pointless" overtones, but at least in this case I think it can be explained: it seems that Madame Suliman caused the war. Ben and I were trying to puzzle out why last night, but he was dead tired and unable to think straight. My best guess is that she was searching for Howl, and she lost her way while doing so. At the end, when she saw he was happy, she kind of returned to herself.

I'll be interested to see if the book bears that theory out, or if something else entirely was going on.

But in any case, it was a lovely movie. I was fascinated by a heroine who's an old lady most of the time. I doubt Hollywood would ever make that movie.

I loved Howl's castle :D And Calcifer was awesome!

We watched it in Japanese, so I don't know how well Christian Bale and Billy Crystal did. (I'm in the "why give famous people voiceover roles? Why can't professional voice actors be famous?" camp, anyway. Cam Clarke FTW!)

So yeah, great movie. Beautiful. The settings kind of reminded me of Heidi.

If I were Sophie, I would have fallen in love with Howl too ;>

I was unaware that Billy Crystal did one of the voices for the English language version.

Which role?

The first time I saw it was on TV here in Japan not too long ago.

Curious movie. I'm not really into all that sci-fi fantasy stuff so much, so I didn't really enjoy it on that level so much as just simply enjoying the weird Miyazaki characterizations.

Crystal was Calcifer.

I used to say that I didn't like fantasy at all, only sci-fi, but either I'm mellowing with age or there are certain types of fantasy that are better than others. I have been a huge science fiction fan since high school.
