Malaysia wasn't spared either, due to the proximity of Peninsula Malaysia to Sumatra. If you look at the map in the article, you can see Northern Malaysia across the Straits of Malacca from Sumatra, and two large islands and scores of smaller ones on the coast. Penang is the larger island, while Langkawi is the oblong-ish one on north of Penang. Both were affected by tidal waves after the earthquake. 53 dead and 34 missing, at the last count. -_-
