Last night, as I put the Yaris in park and removed the key from the ignition, the interior lights came on automatically, as usual.
"Thank you, Raoul," I said thoughtlessly.
Raoul has been a standard butler name of mine for some time now. It's the name I gave my IV pole back in the hospital.
For a moment I pondered naming my Yaris Raoul, but...nah.

Haha, when I drove a Ford Focus (which my brother has now inherited) I referred to it not as "the Focus" but simple as "Focus", as though that were its given name. I also held periodic, mostly one-sided conversations with it but that's another matter altogether.
Unfortunately, my current vehicle doesn't come so much with a name as an alphanumeric designation and attempts at calling it by that title just doesn't feel right. Perhaps it's just another sign that I need to rid myself of that money-pit (albeit a very sleek, sporty, luxurious money-pit) and pick up something more cost-effective, efficient, and friendly instead.
That said, I've thought Yaris does have a nice ring to it...
I've thought about just calling it Yaris. Yaris is an awesome name!
According to Wikipedia (who got it from Yahoo!), it comes from a combination of the German "ja" and Charis: "In Greek mythology, a Charis is one of several Charites...goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity and fertility."
So Charles (who was websurfing with me at the time) suggested I call it Charis, but...eh.
Maybe I could combine another language's word for "yes" with another culture's goddess of charm, beauty, nature, etc. :>
