Grieving Fan: Oh man! I remember exactly where I was the second I found out Heath Ledger died…
V: Fag.
I just want to know if they're going to show The Dark Knight with Ledger, or recast him, or what. (I'm actually a little afraid to see that movie...looks like it's going to be really dark)

Dark Knight has already moved onto post production, so this will be Ledger's last completed movie, and it'll be a doozy. I heard weeks ago that he became the Joker so much that he actually was giving himself sleepless nights.
I think it's all a big, mysterious pity. Poor guy.
I know you, that's why I'm not shocked by you saying you're almost a bit aprehensive about seeing the movie, but it's all on the opposite side of the spectrum for me, as this is the FIRST Batman movie in the series, that I've been excited about seeing, in years.
The movie is probably either in post-production or finished by this point. Precedent would be to release it as planned.
Charles: Eep.
Brooke: I know, you like things darc and mistrious.
Jered: imdb says it's in post-production, but somebody posted in the FAQ that they would probably replace Ledger or write him out of the movie. That seemed a little retarded to me, but I didn't want to just discount it either. You never know :P
They're referring to any following movie with the Joker, not TDK.
"However, it remains to be seen if the Joker will be in the planned sequel. If so the role will presumably be recast or written out."
Ooooh. Heheheh
You know, my favorite Batman movie so far has been the one based on the animated series, Mask of the Phantasm. I felt like that one got closest to the character. Although I liked Batman Begins pretty well also. I am looking forward to a dark, adult comic fan oriented Batman, if they can do it right and understand not every movie based on a comic has to be geared for "suitable for all ages" then maybe it will be good.
"I am Darkness. I am The Night. I am BATMAN!"
I love Mask of the Phantasm! I have it on DVD, as well as the animated series. I really love the stylized setting of that show; how everything looks World Fair-ish, but they still have modern technology. Really neat.
The sequel, Batman Beyond, couldn't really compete, because its setting was a projection into the future, and there was no real character there. (However, Sean adores that show and would marry Terry McGinnis if he were gay and Terry were a real person. He's very excited about Terry appearing in the comics and is looking to buy anything where he appears.)
I don't think any movie should be made "for all ages". I hate how they will throw all these grown-up jokes into kids' movies for no reason other than to entertain the parents. Sure, things happen in life that kids don't understand, and we can reflect that in movies, but do we have to always tell dirty jokes to do it? ;P I say write a good story, and that will be entertaining enough for both.
And of course, I would say never make a film that deals with mature themes appeal to children! Ultimately, of course, it's up to parents what kids watch, but filmmakers and toy companies make it really hard for parents to make that choice.
